We are conscious of the singularities of various levels of child development and we continuously assess each child’s progress. Children’s capabilities are assessed at the beginning to determine their level of development and coordination. Life skills are developed and a foundation is laid for future years of study and social orientation. Much pre-reading work is done and a majority of students are reading with confidence by the time they leave
school.

By the end of nursery 3, the children can read short stories from ‘read it yourself’ books by sound reading, write dictation and spell 3 to 6 letter words. They are introduced to the 42 main sounds of English and not just the alphabet sounds. They understand nouns, pronouns, verbs, and prepositions. They can subtract and add with carrying, they know the times’ table 1 to 7, they can count 1 to 1000, they can write roman numerals I to L (1 to 50), do simple fractions, and identify at least 10 geometrical shapes. They are taught French songs and can respond to simple commands in French and converse in short sentences. They are introduced to painting and appliqué and can type short words on the computer.

Apart from the basic skills in reading, writing, and mathematics, emphasis is placed on new subjects such as computer science, current affairs, French, aptitude, and creative writing. The children are also introduced to primary school mathematics. By the end of nursery 2, children are able to name and distinguish all the colors, use prepositions, express their feelings and follow instructions. They are able to dress, distinguish between left and right, and recall stories and songs. They are familiar with numbers up to 20 and are able to play simple number games, the words ‘take away and ‘add; having been introduced. They begin to learn French by singing songs in French. They can at this stage be given certain responsibilities.

Three languages are taught to the children, English, French, and Igbo. But the most emphasis
is placed on English where they are introduced to phonics, fiction, and nonfiction books which
the school provides to enhance comprehension, word skills, and writing activities at their various levels. Poetry and verbal reasoning are also taught where they learn anagrams and coding sequences. Mathematics is taught throughout the 6-year course with illustrations that show clearly how mathematics is part of everyday life.

Under this, the pupils are exposed to quantitative reasoning, graphic data, numeracy, number equations, shapes, sizes, and logic. Basic, computer, agricultural, and health science are taught with the necessary facilities
needed to enhance the teaching of these subjects including science equipment and computers where the pupils under strict supervision have access to the internet. Fine art, vocational aptitude, music, social studies, bible knowledge, and home economics are
taught where the pupils learn their culture and social norms.

All the materials needed for these subjects are provided by the school in addition to excursions and exhibitions which the children are taken to within and outside Nigeria. At both the primary and nursery level, classes are kept to an optimum size to ensure a great deal of individual attention. Every child has the opportunity to reach his or her potential through the caring structured program. Extra support is available to any child requiring
special help. A unique diary and file system for individual communication and continuous assessment is maintained.
